Not only timetable changes and longer travel times for those heading to the capital, 2025 also brings with it an increase in the cost of train tickets for commuters traveling in Umbria.

This is provided for in the 2023/2032 service contract signed by the Umbria Region and Trenitalia, which has scheduled a 6% increase in fares from 1 January. Average numbers, as underlined by the FS group, certainly far – it must be added – from the +15% recorded for example in Abruzzo, but also from the +2.5% announced in Liguria, an increase which the new regional council has however decided in the meantime to freeze.

With the new year, according to the new fares, for a Terni-Perugia journey in regional (or fast regional) in second class you will spend, for example, 9.35 euros each way, which goes to 41.60 euros with a weekly pass, based on 120.70 euros for the monthly and 1,138.30 euros for the yearly.

From Terni to Spoleto – on the same type and class of train – you spend 4.30 euros each way, 23 euros for the weekly pass, 70.5 euros for the monthly pass and 629.50 euros for the annual pass. Again from the city of steel to Orvieto, traveling regionally you spend 8.10 euros each way, 37.40 euros for the weekly pass, 110.60 euros for the monthly pass and 1,034.80 euros for the annual pass. Prices which obviously rise if you also want to include intercity travel.

Meanwhile, the maintenance work scheduled by RFI on the Florence-Rome direct line began on January 7th, scheduled until March 4th, while from January 9th to May 7th other maintenance work will be carried out on the line. The construction sites will lead to timetable changes for 82 trains with replacement buses, cancellations and, in many cases, shifts from the direct route to the slow line, with increased travel times.

Therefore, even if the works will not directly affect the Umbrian tracks, new weeks of passion are expected for the region’s commuters, in particular for those who go to the capital for work every day. In particular, FS announced, from 9 January to 4 March, for the regional trains in service between Florence-Arezzo-Chiusi-Rome, Florence-Foligno, Florence-Borgo S. Lorenzo (via Vaglia and via Pontassieve), from Umbria towards Rome, Viterbo-Orte-Rome, Rieti-Rome, cancellations or limitations of services are expected, travel times will increase by up to 10 minutes and there will also be timetable changes with early or late departures. Some repercussions are also expected for trains on the FL1 lines Orte–Fiumicino Airport, FL2 Rome–Tivoli and FL7 Rome–Formia.

From 9 January to 7 May for regional trains in service between Florence-Arezzo-Chiusi-Rome, Florence-Foligno, Florence-Borgo S. Lorenzo (via Vaglia and via Pontassieve), travel times will increase by up to 10 minutes and there will be changes and limitations to routes and times even with early or postponed departures.

From 7 January to 4 March the Intercity trains of the connections Milan-Naples/Salerno/Reggio Calabria, Prato-Naples, Rome-Florence/Prato/Trieste Rome-Ancona/San Benedetto del Tronto/Perugia and the Intercity Night trains of the connections Rome- Trieste/Brennero, Turin-Salerno undergo changes in timetables and stops. Finally, again from 7 January to 4 March, changes to train timetables are also expected.
